Giving myself an at home facial treatment

by The Shopping Maniac

I’m on a mission this evening. My husband is out of town and won’t be back until 10:30 pm or later so I have the house to myself.

I have to admit I’m a little bored.

Anyway … I’ve been having some problems with my skin lately. I hate to mention it, probably because I’ve always had fairly clear skin, but something is going on and my skin is breaking out more often lately. Maybe my body is going through some hormonal changes or maybe it’s the new medication I’m taking that’s causing my skin to break out … either way, I’m not happy.

So this evening I’m 1. Doing some research on the best acne products to use on my sensitive skin and 2. Going upstairs to the bathroom to give myself a home facial.

I have a mask treatment upstairs that I’m thinking of trying. It’s a gentle mask that doesn’t dry out the skin. Hopefully it helps my skin and doesn’t irritate it more.

Have you ever experienced a sudden outbreak of blemishes? What kind of treatments have you tried and did they work?

The stores already have Halloween Costumes and decorations

by The Shopping Maniac

When I was shopping on the weekend I couldn’t believe that they already have all the Halloween and Thanksgiving decorations out already. Another month and the stores will be filled with Christmas decorations.

I can’t believe how early everything comes out.

In the summer time I couldn’t find shorts or bathing suits in the stores because they had sweaters and coats for Autumn out already.

I don’t know … I think it’s too early. I like to shop during whatever season it actually is at the time. Ok sometimes slightly ahead of season, but only a little ahead – not months ahead.

Having said that … I did stop and peek at some of the Halloween stuff. I saw the most adorable infant halloween costumes. I could picture my neighbors baby in one of them easily.

Have you started buying things for Halloween yet? I haven’t, but maybe once October arrives I’ll buy a few decorations and some candy for the kids that come to our door.

Having a rough ride with a new medication

by The Shopping Maniac

I’ve been taking a new medication for my migraines for the last month and while it’s been working great for my migraines it has a lot of side effects and I’ve been having a hard time dealing with them.

I almost feel like I’ve had a couple of drinks most days. My feet and hands tingle, I have trouble finding the right word at times or lose my train of though and well .. writing a post can be difficult to say the least. I certainly have to reread what I write.

My stomach has been bothering me a lot lately too. I have Crohn’s and I think the new medication might be aggravating my abdomen. Sigh … just what I need. My Crohn’s was finally starting to get better too.

Oh and I’ve lost about 15 pounds. Enough that even my husband has noticed! You know men, they’re oblivious! He even wondered if I had taken a weight loss supplement even though he knows I’m not taking anything like that.

Anyway … hopefully the side effects of this new medication calm down soon before 1. I lose too much weight, and or 2. my stomach gets so bad that I have to stop taking the medication completely.

My sleepy husband

by The Shopping Maniac

My husband is so tired this evening … oh and cranky! Oh boy!

He didn’t sleep well last night. I think he only had a couple of hours sleep.

Every once in a while he goes through a period where he has a lot of trouble sleeping. It seems like it’s happening more and more often lately though. I’m starting to think that maybe he should talk to his doctor about a treatment for insomnia or go back to the sleep clinic for another sleep study.

I don’t sleep as well as I used to either, but I sleep better than my husband – these days anyway. I tend to have trouble getting to sleep but once I fall asleep I stay asleep until morning. My husband on the other hand will awake at the tiniest sound.

Anyone else have trouble sleeping or have a spouse that has insomnia?

Worried about an elderly neighbor

by The Shopping Maniac

I’m starting to get worried about one of my elderly neighbors. She’s in her late 80’s and over the last couple of years it’s become obvious that her memory is going.

She lives with her son, but he works in the evening and often doesn’t come home until Midnight or the early morning hours. Her daughter lives in the city and visits at least twice a week, but given her mothers condition I think her daughter could possibly be visiting a little more often.

So … since our neighbor is alone quite a bit she tends to turn to my husband and I for company and for help when she can’t do something. She calls us when she hears noises in the house next door … The house between our two homes is empty at the moment, the new neighbors bought it about 4 months ago, but they are renovating sporadically and haven’t moved in yet so it’s mostly empty … but I guess any little noise next door gets our elderly neighbor wondering if it’s the new neighbors or if someone is breaking in.

Also … she sometimes forgets that new people own the house next door and repeatedly asks if they are nice people and so on.

According to our neighbors son and daughter she’s been diagnosed with early Alzheimer’s and she’s taking quite a few medications to help slow the progress of the disease. She’s also taking a supplement called acetyl l-carnitine to help her memory as well.

I’m a nurse and I don’t think her memory and or early Alzheimer’s is all that bad, especially considering that she’s in her late 80’s, but her family is becoming concerned enough that they’re considering putting her in a nursing home. I feel bad for my elderly neighbor, but I also kind of understand her childrens concerns.

My guess is that we’ll have another new neighbor a year from now – even if our elderly neighbor is still alive. She’ll either be living in a nursing home or with her daughter and her son will likely sell the house if his mom is no longer living in the house. That’s my best guess. Our neighborhood keeps changing … especially the houses closest to us. Sigh.
