Parties at work each week?

by The Shopping Maniac

My husband came home from work this evening and told me that next week their having a big birthday party for two of his coworkers. It seems like they’re always having a party for one reason or another at his work. Just on Wednesday they had a party for someone who was leaving.

Anyway … one of the nurses is turning 30 and I was looking around on the internet for some gift ideas and I came across this site that had some great ideas in this category – gourmet 30th birthday gifts. My husband said that the nurse really enjoys cooking and baking so maybe a gourmet gift would be a good idea. Since it’s already Thursday I’ll just have to see if I were to order something if it would arrive in time for the party.

Does your workplace have a lot of parties? How do you manage, do you buy gifts or bring food for each party?

A visitor in the spring?

by The Shopping Maniac

My brother in law called just a little while ago. I guess he’s going to be coming for a visit sometime in the early spring. It’s always interesting when he visits, that’s for sure!

While we were talking to him on the phone he was telling us about some new things he bought. I guess he’s taken up hunting which is something totally new to him and he bought a bushnell legend for his riffle. I don’t know anything about hunting or guns so the conversation went over my head, but he was happy so I guess that’s good.

Now we just have to prepare for his imminent visit. I think it will be during spring break. The first few days will be ok but I’ll probably be ready for a quite house again by the end of that week.

Another visit to the Health Store

by The Shopping Maniac

The other day I went to one of my favorite new stores. It’s called Healthy Planet.

It’s sort of a combination organic bulk food store and health supplement store. I don’t go there often, but I had to go there to get more magnesium (I take it for my migraines).

Whenever I visit the store I always find myself wandering each aisle looking in all the bulk bins and at all the shelves. They have so many spices, even a ton of natural diuretics like juniper berries. Oh and the last time I was there I bought chocolate covered ginger. Yum. It was so good. Not cheap, but tasty.

Do you have a favorite store that you go to where you cruise up and down the aisles when you visit?

Winter Skin problems

by The Shopping Maniac

I was just saying on one of my other blogs that I’m starting to have skin problems again. I don’t know if it’s because of a medication that I’m having or if it’s because it’s winter and the air is so dry and that’s affecting my skin.

Now I’m on the lookout for a good acne treatment. My skin isn’t that bad and I want to keep it that way. I’d hate for my skin to really breakout and become a terrible problem.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good acne treatment?

I think my baking spree is coming to an end

by The Shopping Maniac

I did a lot of cooking in December. I was on a real baking kick. I made 6 different kinds of cookies, four different kinds of breads – Zucchini bread, pumpkin bread, cinnamon babka, and chocolate babka – and two cheesecakes.

I also experimented with some different foods for our dinners such as trying to come up with a good recipe for broccoli and cheese stuffed chicken breasts.

You see … I was on a real cooking spree. I even made two turkeys in total. there was no stopping me.

Naturally my husband sampled every single thing I cooked. In fact there’s still some of the food items around the house (in the freezer) so we’ll be eating it for a while. I think that if he keeps trying out the extra food items that I’ve been baking (yes I’m still thinking up things to cook) we’ll need to start looking for the best fat burners for men! LOL Yeah I’m just joking … but I do think my husband gained a couple of pounds in December with all the extra goodies that I cooked.

Do you ever go on cooking of baking sprees? You just decide that you want too cook some bread or cookies and make up several batches?
