My crocuses are blooming

by The Shopping Maniac

I was out in my backyard this afternoon and I noticed that my crocuses were not only pushing up through the snow that shouldn’t be covering the yard (we had a snow last week) but that some of them are blooming!

I quickly went back inside the house and got out my camera to take some pictures. I always take a few photos of the first flowers of the year. I always know spring is truly here once the crocuses begin to bloom.

Speaking of taking pictures. I’m thinking of getting a new camera for when I’m out hiking on the trail. Is anyone familiar with the new trail cameras? I hadn’t really heard of them before but they look kind of cool and feature wise they sound quite good. I might check one out when I’m in a store this weekend.

So … does anyone else have flowers coming up in their yard or garden beds too? Isn’t it nice?

Trying a new skin treatment?

by The Shopping Maniac

I was just saying on one of my other blogs that my skin has been getting worse and worse lately. I really do think it’s because of a medication that I’ve been taking.

I’m seriously considering either stopping taking the medication that I’ve been taking for my migraines or perhaps trying some new ways of treating my skin problems. I’ve read some zenmed reviews and that’s started me thinking that it might be worth trying zenmed before ditching the migraine medication.

Have you tried Zenmed? If you have, what were your experiences?

Too many teens standing around in front of my house

by The Shopping Maniac

I live on a busy street and as it turns out there’s maybe three high schools within walking distance … so … somewhere between 3:30 and 4:30 pm each weekday I probably see about 100 or more teenagers walk by my house. I also live near a few lower schools so there’s lots of little kids going by at different times of day too.

Anyway … a few of the kids have a habit of standing right in front of my house and talking for ten of fifteen minutes before them go there separate ways. They’ll stand in my walkway and sometimes won’t even move when I’m trying to come out of my house with my dog.

I don’t know … but I find that kind of rude. I would never have done that when I was a teen. Sure I might have stood around talking to my friends, but if an adult needed to get by us I would have moved over and certainly we wouldn’t have blocked their property or stood on their property.

Some girls were standing at the end of my walkway yesterday. I guess they were talking about the prom because not only did they block my walkway but they left a flyer that they’d been holding that said prom dresses 2011 or something similar. I’d kind of forgotten how close to Prom time we were getting.

Anyway .. if we ever sell our house I’m not buying another on a busy street or one that’s near high schools. I’m tired of all the foot traffic and even the cars near my house.

So happy that Spring is almost here

by The Shopping Maniac

It’s really starting to look and feel like Spring here in Toronto. It reached 14 Celsius today (57.2 F) which is pretty warm for mid-March. I can’t wait until it’s officially Spring!

This weekend my husband and I are going to go to the Canada Blooms Show downtown. I haven’t been to that Gardening show for a few years now. I’m going to bring my camera and my video camera and I expect that I’ll have lots of material for my gardening blogs after a day long visit! I’m sure I’ll also manage to find a few new plants to buy as well, as I always do at these kind of shows. Even though my garden is pretty much jam packed with plants!

While we’re downtown we might visit the jewelry district to look at watches. My husbands watch stopped working a while ago and he’s always liked momentum watches so maybe we’ll find him a new watch too.

Are you as happy as I am that Spring is almost here?

Watching the movie about Hugh Hefner

by The Shopping Maniac

I’m watching a fascinating movie right now. I used my PVR to tape Hugh Hefner: Playboy, Activist and Rebel last night on the movie network and my husband and I are watching it now.

I vaguely remember hearing that back in the late 50s and early 60s Hefner had a TV show called “Playboy Penthouse” and on it he featured quite a variety of entertainers. In fact he it seems it wasn’t uncommon for him to have black jazz musicians or mixed musical groups playing on his TV show. Now this was a national broadcast and mixed race bands just weren’t promoted on TV in those days … so this is really quite amazing. Whatever you think of Hefner and his Playboy magazine he has done some good in this world it seems and by watching this movie I’m learning quite a bit more about this very interesting man.

Certainly … Hef being in his 80’s and about to embark on what, his third or fourth marriage .. well I don’t think he’ll ever be collecting SSDI. Not a chance! Anyway .. if you get a chance to check out this documentary/ movie do take a look, it’s fascinating.
