Building a staircase wall

by The Shopping Maniac

There’s been a lot of work done on our house in the last few weeks. The current project that my husband and I are finishing up is a living room wall. It’s one that we knocked down a few years ago between the upper and lower stairway. Yes that’s right .. we’ve had a big opening between the basement stairs and the main floor!

So we’re building a wall now, but not a full wall like it was before because we enjoy the light that comes down from the upper floor that we didn’t get when there was a full wall in the past.

I think tomorrow we’re going to do the wiring for the light switch to the basement stairs and an electrical outlet in the wall. We had been using a cable raceway to hide the electrical cords going to the area in the past but now that the wall is going up we won’t have to do that.

It’s going to be so nice once the wall is up and I can finally look at the wall and the staircase as complete. Believe me it’s been years since I’ve sen the area looking finished! Next is the living room dining room ceiling and then a whole lot of painting throughout the house.

Time to call my brother

by The Shopping Maniac

I was thinking about one of my brothers earlier today. It’s been a long time since I heard from him .. Christmas … almost five months ago. Wow … time sure has gone by fast, but that’s too long to not hear from someone. I think I’d better give him a call this weekend and make sure everything is ok.

He’s been busy getting his business up and running so I’m hoping that’s the main reason why I haven’t heard from him. When he had his old business he used to occasionally call me and a couple of other members of my family using his teleconferencing service to connect all of together at once. That was pretty cool because we could all talk together. Hm ..I wonder if he has that service in his new office. Probably.

Do you have family members that you don’t hear from on a regular basis? I shouldn’t talk I suppose. I should have called him before now as well.

A gift for a musician

by The Shopping Maniac

It’s time to put on my thinking cap and come up with a fantastic birthday gift for one of my friends. It’s his birthday in two weeks and I want to get him a gift that he’ll really enjoy.

Think think think … Hmmmm well I know my friend is a musician. So is my husband, and my husband is aware of most of the musical instruments and equipment that he has but it seems that he might need a digital recorder. I was looking at various types and I’ve almost settled on getting him a marantz brand. My husband says they’re very good.

Other than that … hmmm I don’t think he needs anything else musical instrument wise. I’ll have to keep thinking. Any suggestions?

I need to replace a ceiling fan

by The Shopping Maniac

Some time in the next few weeks I really have to shopping for a new ceiling fan.

I know some people don’t like ceiling fans, but they really do help cool your house and save you money on your heating and air-conditioning costs if you use them properly.

We have a few ceiling fans in our house and naturally, the nicest one, the one in the living room the one with the three speeds, reverse, remote control lighting and a dimmer switch on the light just stopped working in the Fall. Now that we’re well into Spring and the weather will be getting warm soon I’m definitely going to want a ceiling fan in the living room that works – let alone a replacement light. I’ve been missing that light too!

I plan on looking at Hunter ceiling fans first, probably because that’s what the old fan’s brand is and I really like the style. It lasted 11 years and was used regularly so I don’t think I can complain that it wore out too fast.

Do you use ceiling fans in your house to stir the air in order to cool or warm your home?

Canada really does have talent

by The Shopping Maniac

Have you been watching Canada’s Got Talent? I have and I’m enjoying it immensely. I find that the talent that made it to the semi-finals is much more diverse than on the American version of the show.

I’m watching this evenings show and the last performance is a native hoop dancer. There was also a dance troupe that performs tributes to tragic life events which sounds depressing but it’s really beautiful. I’ve never seen anything like that on America’s Got Talent.

Surprisingly there’s fewer rock bands and solo guitar/ singer performers getting through than I would expect. The one rock band that I liked had an amazing drummer. I think he played a set of Dunnett Drums. Unfortunately they didn’t get through. However I think the good things about these shows is that even if the people performing don’t make it all the way to even the semi finals or the finals if their talent is shown on national TV it might help them get started.

Well I must vote for my favorite performers from tonight’s show. There were six performances and I really liked three! I should only vote for one though if I want to give an act a serious chance of making it to the finals. Oh what to do, what to do! If you watched the show who got your vote?
