Time to haul out the the Wii and do a little Cardio Boxing

by The Shopping Maniac

I was upstairs in one of our spare bedrooms earlier today and I came across my balance board for my Wii. A flush of guilt came over me when I discovered the board because I haven’t used it in oh … two years!

I’ve used the Wii game more recently than the Wii board, but not all that often. I love doing things like cardio boxing. Now that the weather is beginning to get cooler and I’ll be cooped up in the house more I probably should start using the Wii more often again. I wish I could find something my husband would like on the Wii … hmmm maybe the wii guitar since he is after all a musician. LOL

Do you Wii? If you do, do you use it as a game or as a form of fitness? As you can see I use it more for fitness than game although I find it fun either way.

Just got an invite to a great Halloween party

by The Shopping Maniac

Every few years my friend likes to throw a wild Halloween party. She just sent out the party invitations and I just received mine. This is one party we won’t miss!

Now … all I need to do is decide what I’m going to make for the party – I always make something very creatively edible and two … decide what kind of costume to wear oh and I suppose what kind of costume my husband might want to wear too.

Hmmm maybe something like this sexy maid costume but I have a feeling it might a little too cold around here by then for something like that! At least I have a little bit of time to think about it.

Do you go to Halloween parties? Do you dress up?

I wish we had a pool in our backyard!

by The Shopping Maniac

I wish our property were big enough to have a pool!

I got a little envious earlier today when I noticed a neighbor having some pool maintenance done. I was inside my house when this big truck with these huge colored canisters on the back pulled up in front of their house and then the sound of a pump started up. At least I’m fairly certain it was a pool cleaning service.

I wasn’t sure that this house had a pool but earlier in the summer, on a very hot summer day I saw a bunch of kids wander out of the yard wrapped in towels and that along with a truck that said something about pool heat pumps about a month before that confirmed my suspicion … yep … those lucky devils have a pool!

My yard is so small the best I can do is a big hot tub or a pond. LOL

Spending a sunny afternoon at the neighbors

by The Shopping Maniac

My husband and I were outside today enjoying the sunshine, the warm weather and getting a little yard work done.

While I was out front with our dog one of our neighbors came over and asked if we wanted some herbs. He and his partner had planted a little herb garden at the front of their house earlier this summer and it’s doing very well. So well in fact that they have plenty to share.

My husband was cutting the grass when our neighbor came over, so I’d gone over to his house on my own with our dog and my husband joined us when he finished our tiny yard.

Once we were done talking about the little herb garden our neighbor brought us into his backyard to show us some of his other plants and we end up sitting on his patio with some of his roommates and having a few drinks. Correction … my husband had a few drinks – I had a Pepsi since I can’t drink with my migraine meds.

By the time we were heading home I think we’d ended up being over at the neighbors for about two hours and we’d exchanged dinner invitations between us. We used to spend more time with these particular neighbors a few years ago, but we haven’t spent much time with them lately. Perhaps that’s about to change again. It was fun spending some time with our friend this afternoon.

Converstations with my sister

by The Shopping Maniac

My sister and I have been talking a lot this week. I think we’ve already talked for about four hours on the phone this week and that’s only two days worth of conversations! My ear is sore!

We have a strange communication pattern. We’ll sometimes go months without really talking and then we’ll talk quite a bit for weeks on end and then not talk again for quite a while. I don’t know why we do this, but we’ve been doing this for years.

We used to live together when I first moved to Toronto and then my sister got me a job in the jewelery industry, the same industry she was working in at the time (and still works in) and then we each started businesses in the jewellery trade and ended up working together – and living together. Perhaps that’s why we now go through these strange on and off communication phases. I think we used to be toooooo together. LOL

Anyway … our conversation today ran from going over what was happening with her two kids to people we both know, to discussing various health problems we’re both experiencing and so on.

My sister asked me an interesting question while we were talking. We both have thyroid problems. She’s had her thyroid totally removed and I’ve had half of my thyroid removed so we’re both on Hormone replacement therapy but, well … what if something happened – how long could you live without thyroid replacement medication?

I had to ask her what she meant by “what if something happened” and of course she meant something catastrophic like end of the world bad where you can’t get your prescription medications anymore or at least not for a long time. Now if something like that were the case, well … in the case of thyroid meds I’d probably slow down a lot, but I’d likely survive since I still have half my thyroid as dysfunctional as it is, but my sister doesn’t have a thyroid at all and since the thyroid is so vitally important to ones metabolism and body function … I think within a couple of weeks my sister would be quite ill without her medication.

Anyway … I really don’t think my sister has anything to worry about, but it was an interesting question. Something to think about! I’m sure a lot of people are living on medications that are keeping them going day by day and that if they didn’t have them their lives would be vastly different.

Hmmm I wonder if my sister and I will talk tomorrow .. and if so .. for how long! Maybe I’ll use the speaker phone – my ear will appreciate that, it doesn’t like the phone rubbing up against it.
