All I want to do is garden today – but I can’t!

by The Shopping Maniac

I think today is going to be a big shopping day. Groan.

Oh yeah, my husband and I were out shopping yesterday – but it wasn’t really for the normal household things we need. Nope, I was looking for new eye glasses and not having much fun or luck finding a style that suits my face.

Today we have to go out to the pet store to get dog food for our Lab. We also have to go to the grocery store to pick up a few supplies for the week. Now that I think about it we also need to hit a place like Home Depot to get some manure and or compost for the garden as well as a new weed whacker – ours died last year and since we have built up garden beds we need a weed whacker to get rid of the grass that grows close to the raised stones.

I also want to get another smoke detector for the main floor of our house. By law you’re supposed to have one on each floor of your house (at least here in Toronto) and we only have smoke detectors on the second floor and in the basement. Oops!

I also want to look at a cell phone booster because our phone just doesn’t seem to be getting the reception that it used to. hmm maybe we should just get a new cell phone?

It’s going to be a busy day and I really don’t want to go shopping. Uh huh … What I really want to do is spend some time in my garden! It needs a good tidying up as everything has been growing like crazy!

What are your plans for today, Sunday … a supposed day of rest?

I’m the advisor for my group of friends

by The Shopping Maniac

I think I’m the group adviser for all of my friends. They are always calling me up to ask me for advice.

They’re always asking me things like “What would you do in this situation” or asking me advice about their relationships or worse their health problems asking questions like “what are the best weight loss supplements?” and so on.

I guess I get a lot of health related questions because I’m a nurse … but the rest? I don’t know. I guess they think I’m a good listener. I think I give fairly good advice, but as you can probably guess most people don’t take the advice they get – even when they asked for it. LOL

Are you the “therapist “for your group of friends or do you have a friend that you always turn to to ask for advice?

Are you ready for Summer?

by The Shopping Maniac

I can’t believe that May is already half over! In just a little over a month it will be summer.

Ahhhhh!

I’m not ready! I’ve been trying to get in shape and lose a few pounds before summer arrives and while I’ve had a bit of success it’s not quite as much as I’d like. Hmmm maybe I should try some phentermine for quick weight loss?

Nah … I’d never do that. I’m a diet and exercise girl all the way. I guess I just have to do more if I want to be ready for those pool and hot tub parties that are coming up.

Are you ready for summer?

Sometimes I hate shopping I really do

by The Shopping Maniac

This probably isn’t the best thing for me to say on a blog named Shopping Maniac … but sometimes I HATE shopping.

Honestly …

Ok sometimes I like it. You know on those rare days when you go into a store and you find some beautiful clothes on the rack and when you try them on they actually fit correctly and look fabulous on you? You can’t lose on those days, but those days are too few and far between for me. Or maybe I’m just too picky. LOL

Earlier today my husband and were out shopping in a few stores and as far as I’m concerned shopping on a Saturday is the worst. I hate the crowds and I dislike rude people that

1. try to skip ahead of you in line,
2. walk into you or bump into you with their shopping cart
3. Get to the cashier and suddenly pull out their change collection to pay a 75 bill.
3. Sales people that either try to sell you things you aren’t interested in, or that really could care less because they hate their job and you because you’re making them work

I could go on, but you get the picture.

We were in a store earlier today and pretty much all of those things happened to us within 15 minutes! LOL This man was in Costco and he was buying some product – something the cashier had to call out over the mic for a price check like “I need a price on ls2208 at cash 8” several times. Then when the cashier finally got the correct price the man pulled out change to pay for it! A lot of change!

Hopefully my next shopping trip is better … maybe one of those really good days where you want to buy everything because it’s all perfect.

What do you hate most about shopping?

I hate it when a family member has a health scare

by The Shopping Maniac

We had a scare the other day with my Father in Law. He’d called me at about 7:30 in the evening to remind me about something and he said that he was feeling off. I asked him if he was having pain or if he was just tired and he said “No, no pain, I think I just over did things on the weekend”. So you’re tired? Yeah, very tired.

We got off the phone a little while after that and then two hours later we got a call from my husbands oldest sister saying that her mom had just called her from the hospital. She’d taken my FIL to the hospital because he was complaining of chest pain but that his pain, when asked by the doctors was only about a 4 out of 10 .. so not too bad.

I immediately wondered if it was his gallbladder because he’d just been diagnosed with gall stones, although he hadn’t ever experienced any kind of pain from them up to that point.

Anyway the hospital he was in only did one blood test … for Troponin, we believe, as that’s an enzyme the heart puts out when it’s been damaged. They didn’t do a full work up to see if anything else was off.

After we heard that my husband father was sick we called his other sister (my husbands, not his fathers sister – if we’d called her she’d start thinking he was going to die and begin asking about funeral costs or something!) and she thought it was probably his gall bladder too.

With both his sister and I (both of us nurses) thinking his fathers symptoms sounded more like gall stones/gall bladder my husband calmed down a bit. His father is turning 82 this coming Monday so it’s easy to worry when he gets sick .. plus he already had one mild heart attack a few years ago.

Anyway .. they discharged him from the hospital at about 2:30 in the morning and he’s seeing his family doctor today … it seems it wasn’t a heart attack, but we still don’t know for sure what caused his chest pain.

Don’t you hate it when you have a health scare in your family?
