Thinking of taking up yoga

by The Shopping Maniac

I’ve been under so much stress lately that I’m thinking of taking up yoga or some form of meditation. I didn’t think of it myself if I’m going to be perfectly truthful, it was actually suggested to me by someone I was talking to last week. At this point I think I’ll try just about anything. I’m very stressed – during the day and even at night – it’s even affecting my sleep. So, if I can manage to bring some peace into my life through meditation I’m all for it.

Now to equip myself with the necessary supplies … yoga mat bags, yoga gear, yoga DVD … what else? Maybe I should check around and see if there’s some kind of yoga class nearby? A cheap one. I don’t have a lot of money and I don’t expect that to change in the near future. Actually that’s part of my stress, I think my fiances are going to drastically change for the worse in the next month or two so anything free is good.

Any suggestions?

Hoping to go back to work soon

by The Shopping Maniac

Earlier today I renewed my nursing registration. It’s something I have to do every year around this time.

Unfortunately I haven’t been a practicing nurse for about 6 years because I’ve been on medical leave … but, I’ve been feeling quite a bit better in the last 6 months or so … or I was until something very stressful started happening about three months ago – and I had started to think about returning to work.

I’m pretty sure I still have my job placement at the hospital if I want to return to it, so if I can overcome the current stressful situation that I’m under I might be able to go back to work. In fact, getting out of the house might be very good for me. I need a change of scenery and need to renew my sense of self worth.

So please wish me luck. I’m hoping that maybe by February I’ll be able to say that I’m starting back to work at the hospital. I’ll still be blogging of course too – so you’ll still hear from me.

Another Thyroid Biopsy

by The Shopping Maniac

I was in the hospital earlier today for a small procedure. I had to have a Thyroid biopsy – again. I’m supposed to have my thyroid tested every 6 months but this is the first biopsy that I’ve had in two years. Yes my doctors are extremely behind in my health care. Not Good.

The doctor doing the procedure in the hospital ultrasound department was fairly nice. He was kind of funny as he set everything up. I guess his assistant – the ultrasound person, couldn’t find any medication carts or surgical carts so he set everything up pretty much on my chest and stomach. That was odd .. but it worked.

Now I’m just trying to recovery from having three holes punched into my neck by the needles. It wasn’t really painful, but my neck does hurt now. My neck is also somewhat swollen where the needling was done. I’m sure I’m going to have bruises.

Hopefully my test results come out ok. I guess I’ll find out sometime next week.

Clearing out the clutter

by The Shopping Maniac

I’ve been spending a little bit of time cleaning out drawers and closets and other storage areas in my house lately. Unfortunately there’s a lot of stuff to clean out and go through since we’re kind of pack rats or so it seems looking at the stuff we’ve stored away.

My greatest problem is that I don’t know where to start. I suppose I should just start in one room and work my way through the house, but so far I’ve just been doing a little bit of cleaning and clearing out here and there. Oh don’t worry the house isn’t overly cluttered or anything … it’s just that we’ve accumulated a lot of stuff that we just don’t use and that I’m sure we won’t ever use again.

The other day I was looking in an upstairs closet where we keep things for the bathroom, hair care and so on and I came across some older straightening irons. I think I’ve had those for twenty years or more. I keep my hair short these days but a long time ago I used to have it longer and when it’s longer it gets wavy and sometimes I’d use the straightening iron to straighten my hair for a sleek look. I probably should get rid of them but lately I have been thinking of growing my hair longer again so maybe this was a good find after all?

How often do you go through your closets and drawers to clear out the clutter? Regularly or almost never?

Nice teeth and beautiful jewelery have something in common

by The Shopping Maniac

I was in the basement the other day going through some old stuff and I came across a box of things that I used to use in my jewelry business. I guess I should put some of those things up for sale on eBay or something or sell it to some of my old jewelry trade friends – those few who are still in the business that is!

It’s funny, I’ll bet that those of you who’ve never seen a jeweler at work have no idea what kind of tools we work with, but you’d probably be surprise at just how many dental tools we use. In fact quite a few of the tools that I used when I did designs on pieces of gold manually with a spinning diamond (diamond cutting) I did with one of those dental foredom drills! I guess it’s kind of like a Dremel drill but more powerful. Anyway … the jewelery tool suppliers likely bought some of their supplies from discount dental equipment suppliers because I swear 25% to 50% of the tools and products that jewelers use are the same ones that dentists use too.

I bet you never thought that nice teeth and beautiful jewelery had something in common? LOL

Now what should I do with my old “jewelry” equipment?
