Fruit desserts

by The Shopping Maniac

Over the last few months my husband and I have tried our best to have a piece of fruit for dessert most evenings.

Lately we’ve lucked out and we’ve managed to come across some great sales on strawberries so cut up fresh strawberries has been our main dessert over the last month.

Now I’ve just been visiting a site located at www.berries.com that sells all kinds of berry desserts like chocolate covered strawberries. I know …. maybe not quite as healthy as the desserts that we’ve been having, but if we wanted to change things up a bit and have a bit more decadent dessert this would be the place to get it, I think. There selection looks delicious.

Do you like chocolate covered berries or fruit for dessert? What’s your favorite kind of fruit?

Not very hungry lately

by The Shopping Maniac

I was just saying on my other blog that my husband and I just finished eating a late dinner. I think we ate so late in part because I wasn’t really very hungry most of the day.

I haven’t been very hungry at all in the last two weeks. I do get hungry around dinner time but that’s about the only time that I really get hungry. I think it’s because we’ve been eating a bell peppers pretty much every day and they’ve been acting like the best appetite suppressant that I’ve ever had. I’m convinced that that’s what it is.

Have you ever experienced this .. Try eating bell peppers every day for a week or so. I don’t know if it works raw or not (probably). I’ve been eating them grilled or roasted – just a third to half a pepper a day and wow … no cravings for snacks between meals or feeling hungry at all.

I was

Workouts and tempting desserts

by The Shopping Maniac

I subscribe to a few magazines – mostly Canadian magazines like Chatelaine and Flare (and hello Canada) and it seems they’re all full of articles about how to get in shape for summer or Bikini ready body workouts and so on.

Of course, in these same magazines, the ones trying to give you ideas like getting rid of belly fat or simple yoga routines that will get you in shape in four weeks, they also have recipes for delicious summer meals and desserts.

It seems like a contradiction doesn’t it. They have drool worth pictures of food and a few pages later they’re showing you how to lose weight. LOL Well I guess it’s nice that they show us how to stay fit if they’re going to tempt us with delicious sounding recipes.

Do you read magazines that tempt and taunt you too?

I’m so full!

by The Shopping Maniac

Man we just had a filling dinner.

Actually the dinner wasn’t that big, it was what we ate afterwords!

On Sunday I had purchased some fresh strawberries and a flan. Then earlier today my husband and I were out shopping and he saw that the store had Tiger Tail ice cream. I hadn’t had that for at least 10 years … maybe 15 … maybe even longer. So of course we bought some.

So after our very simple dinner of BBQ sausages and corn on the cob we each had a piece of strawberry shortcake and a Tiger Tail ice cream cone.

Two desserts!

Not that the dessert portions or even our dinner portions were all that big .. but together? Yeah – filling!

Then to top it off I had some cold brewed coffee waiting so we could have iced coffee. It’s very hot here so I figured a nice cold drink after dinner would be great.

So now, even though we’re both full we’re drinking my homemade iced coffee. It’s delicious – but heavy on an already full stomach.

Oh and as I was preparing our iced coffees some of the coffee spilled out of the mason jar as I was pouring. Spilled … actually sprayed! I had to clean the counter, the Grohe faucet and the sink. Grrrr!

I haven’t had a dinner that made me feel this full in a long time!

What did you have for dinner … and dessert?

Time to Barbecue

by The Shopping Maniac

I think we’re going to have a barbecue this evening. It’s been raining quite a bit all week, but there’s been no rain in the last two hours so we might make a break for it and get the BBQ going.

I already have chicken marinating and we picked up some corn on the cob ($2 for 5) at a local grocery store earlier in the week. Yum. A nice simple dinner – yet tasty! I’ll probably cut up some red pepper to grill along with the chicken and make a small salad too. All that’s missing is a dessert.

Now if that call that I’m waiting for from the insurancespecialists would hurry up and happen I can get cooking.

What are you having for dinner tonight? Do you find that you are barbecuing more often now that the nice weather is here?
