A little advice

My father in law is going in for one of those lovely colonoscopies later in the week. Since I’m the “Queen of Colonoscopies” his term, not mine (seeing as I have Crohn’s and get this darn tests sometimes more than once a year!) he called me a little while ago to ask some questions.

I told him that the colon cleanser is the worst part of the test and luckily he can do that in the privacy of his own home. Once he’s cleaned out he just has to make it through the night on an empty stomach and get to the hospital for his test. These days most doctors sedate or put their patients to sleep for a colonoscopy so the test part is fairly easy.

I told him to call his doctors office to find out if he’ll be getting sedation or put to sleep. I’ve done a few tests without sedation of any kind and believe me … it’s best if you’re asleep.

He felt a lot better after talking to me about the test. I have no idea how he made it to 81 without having had this test before, but he did!

What do you get an 81 year old for Father’s day?

It seems like almost every week this month we have a birthday or a party of some sort to attend. I was just talking about my friends upcoming birthday in my last post and now I’ve just realized that Father’s day is coming up soon too!

Man, this month could be expensive!

My parents are gone, unfortunately … but my husbands are still around. My husbands father is 81. Hmmm What do you get an 81 year old for Father’s day?

Lucky for me I came across this father’s day gift guide 2010 and I think it might help give me some ideas. It might help you too if you’re as stumped as I am.

At this point I have no idea what we’ll get for my Father in Law. He’s really into genealogy and any thing Ireland … so maybe something along those lines.

Have you come up with any cool ideas for Father’s Day? Care to pass a suggestion along?

Trying to find a special gift for a friend

I have to find the perfect gift for one of my friends. She’s turning 30 this month and I want to get her something special.

The problem is that I have no idea where to start. She’s a bit of a fashion hound so I thought I might get her a designer purse … but that’s probably out of my price range.

She also really likes horses. She rides regularly, so I thought that perhaps getting her horse tack might make an ideal present. I know it would be a little unusual, but it’s the best idea I have right now and I think she’d love it.

Any idea for a fashion loving horse affectionado?

Perfect day for a barbecue

Oh man, it’s just lovely outside today. It’s hot (just under 80 F right now) and sunny and all I want to do it get outside and enjoy what’s left of the day.

We’re going to have a barbecue tonight. I marinated some steaks this afternoon and prepared some vegetables for the grill. All I need to do it make a salad to go with dinner and then get my husband to heat up the barbecue.

I think we might even eat outside tonight. We haven’t set up the patio table and chairs yet so I guess I’ll try to find our outdoor cushions and we can just have a little picnic on the patio.

The next few days are supposed to be nice so I have a feeling we’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. Hmmm Maybe we’ll even take the dog to the beach this weekend. She’s a Labrador Retriever and she loves nothing more than a good swim in the lake (and cookies) and we love nothing more than a tired dog. LOL

What are your plans for this weekend? Are you barbecuing and spending time enjoying the nice weather like us?

All I want to do is garden today – but I can’t!

I think today is going to be a big shopping day. Groan.

Oh yeah, my husband and I were out shopping yesterday – but it wasn’t really for the normal household things we need. Nope, I was looking for new eye glasses and not having much fun or luck finding a style that suits my face.

Today we have to go out to the pet store to get dog food for our Lab. We also have to go to the grocery store to pick up a few supplies for the week. Now that I think about it we also need to hit a place like Home Depot to get some manure and or compost for the garden as well as a new weed whacker – ours died last year and since we have built up garden beds we need a weed whacker to get rid of the grass that grows close to the raised stones.

I also want to get another smoke detector for the main floor of our house. By law you’re supposed to have one on each floor of your house (at least here in Toronto) and we only have smoke detectors on the second floor and in the basement. Oops!

I also want to look at a cell phone booster because our phone just doesn’t seem to be getting the reception that it used to. hmm maybe we should just get a new cell phone?

It’s going to be a busy day and I really don’t want to go shopping. Uh huh … What I really want to do is spend some time in my garden! It needs a good tidying up as everything has been growing like crazy!
