Working very hard in the garden

by The Shopping Maniac

I’m so tired. I’ve been working something like 6 days straight in my backyard between preparing for the new fence to go in on one side of the yard and now working on the after effects of the fence in. In other words … getting torn up by roses for 6 days straight.

At least I’ve been getting a lot of exercise! There’s no way I’ll need to look for anything like the best muscle building supplement because working in the garden, lifting trellises and pushing gigantic rose branches out of my way is definitely getting my muscles in shape.

I still have a few days worth of work to do. I had to replace earth from where I had to dig a trench in my garden bed for part of the fence, and now I’m in the process of putting in some new trellises, adding in some manure to the current garden bed earth and then I’ve got to secure the roses to the trellises and plant some annuals.

Yep still lots of work to do. No wonder I’m exhausted. The garden will be very nice by the time I’m done though!

My friend bought a farm

by The Shopping Maniac

One of these days I have to take a ride out to the country to visit my friends new farm. She moved out to the country last fall for a quieter lifestyle and so far it sounds like she’s really enjoying her new home.

She literally bought a farm. Yeah I know the term bought the farm usually means a person died, but she didn’t, she really bought a farm. You know, one with horse, cows and even a few noisy chickens running around. I wouldn’t be surprised if she’s had some foxes raiding the hen house.

I want to drive up there one weekend for a visit but before I do I’d better look at some horse riding helmets as I’d love to do a little horse riding while I’m there. I haven’t ridden a horse for years, but I used to enjoy it. Of course I’d also enjoy seeing my friend and her family. She still doing some renovations on the farm so I think if we go for a visit she has plans to put us to work, so that’s another reason why I want to get some horse riding in – fair trade you know.

Getting some work done in the backyard this weekend

by The Shopping Maniac

This weekend we’re going to work outside in our garden to get it ready for summer. By this I mean we’re going to put together our Patio table, get out all of our solar lights and torches and other garden ornaments and put them in place.

The plants have been growing and blooming nicely. Every day something new is growing or blooming. It’s quite a nice sight to see.

This year we might do something different entertainment wise in the garden. We bought an iPod earlier this year and now I want to maybe get wireless outdoor speakers that will work with the iPod so that we can listen to our music when we’re outside working in the garden or sitting at our patio table enjoying ourselves.

Have you fixed up your backyard so that you can enjoy some summer fun in it?

My crocuses are blooming

by The Shopping Maniac

I was out in my backyard this afternoon and I noticed that my crocuses were not only pushing up through the snow that shouldn’t be covering the yard (we had a snow last week) but that some of them are blooming!

I quickly went back inside the house and got out my camera to take some pictures. I always take a few photos of the first flowers of the year. I always know spring is truly here once the crocuses begin to bloom.

Speaking of taking pictures. I’m thinking of getting a new camera for when I’m out hiking on the trail. Is anyone familiar with the new trail cameras? I hadn’t really heard of them before but they look kind of cool and feature wise they sound quite good. I might check one out when I’m in a store this weekend.

So … does anyone else have flowers coming up in their yard or garden beds too? Isn’t it nice?

Neighbors disturbing my sleep?

by The Shopping Maniac

I haven’t been sleeping very well for the last few weeks. I’m not really sure why, but I pretty much feel like I’ve barely slept at all.

Anyway … The other day, I think it was Wednesday, I was finally sleeping. Since I’m on medical leave I decided to stay in bed and turned off my alarm so I could catch up on my sleep. Well that didn’t work out. At about 8 am I was awakened by sounds next door that sounded like my neighbors were moving furniture around. As it turned out it wasn’t my immediate next door neighbors (the adjoined house) it was the neighbor on the other side of us, the ones doing all the renovations that were making noise.

I guess the guy hired a professional plumber and the plumber was at the house starting to work and he was drilling concrete in the basement. It made our whole house rattle and shake! So much for my sleep! I stayed in bed and kept trying to sleep, but it didn’t work out.

I was mad. I sooooooo needed to sleep.

Perhaps Karma came to visit that afternoon … why? Well .. later that day the plumbers truck wouldn’t start and it looked like he had to call a tow truck – I didn’t recognize the company but it even said they’d do rv repairs which is unusual around here. So … anyway … I have no idea if the plumber finished his work or not, as he appeared distracted once his truck broke down. Maybe he’ll be back sometime in the next week or so to disturb my sleep.
