Top 6 Features That Help You Spot A Top-Notch Restaurant

by Trish

Most people these days dine out because they enjoy the entire dining experience provided by the restaurants as well as the convenience of having a meal prepared by others. Also, the opportunity to relax and enjoy a great meal in good company is something that most modern working men and women love. Some restaurants are more successful than others are, and they attract more customers. Customers who get the experience they are looking for are likely to make return visits. If you are a food lover, here are features or qualities that are common in successful restaurants that you should certainly look out for.

Great Ambience

The atmosphere of a restaurant has a huge effect on the entire dining experience and it can make or break the business. The best food in the world will not keep customers coming back if they do not enjoy the atmosphere. Any professional restaurateur knows that a huge investment will be required to achieve success in the business.

The ambiance is created through the restaurant décor, the comfort, the background music, the lighting and other factors. Getting all factors right will achieve the required atmosphere and will go a long way in attracting customers.

Good Food

When people decide to order dishes in a restaurant, they are fully expecting to enjoy the meal. No one wants to spend money on a meal that leaves him or her feeling cheated of their money. Without good food, a restaurant might as well close its doors. The foundation of any great restaurant is the food and many businesses will go out of their way to hire the best chefs they can afford.

People go to the restaurants looking for culinary experiences ranging from exciting flavors, interesting new fusion dishes, authentic dishes and groundbreaking innovations among others. Even the food presentation can offer an experience to look forward to. It is very important to maintain consistency so that customers know that they will get great food every time they visit.

Excellent Service

Another key quality of a successful restaurant is great service. Good food served with a bad attitude can never go down well! Restaurant patrons fully expect to pay for full service and that includes the food and how it is served. Hiring rude unprofessional staff is the quickest way to get rid of customers.

Some of the things that put off customers include slow service, rude staff, hovering staff and getting the wrong meal. Excellent service is characterized by prompt responses and flawless efficient presentation from staff that are barely visible.

Hygiene and Cleanliness

Maintaining high Cleanliness standards is essential in the restaurant business and it helps to create a good impression. Patrons want to feel that they are eating healthy food and the condition of the restaurant will affect their dining experience.

Restaurant management and owners have to ensure that they avoid anything that could negatively affect the health of the customers. All the areas of the restaurant must be kept clean, from the kitchen and the rest rooms, to the main restaurant area. The cleanliness should also extend to the employees. No one wants to be waited upon by someone who is in dire need of a bath!

Good Management

A restaurant can only be successful if the management is good. An experienced owner and highly qualified staff will help to ensure that guests get the best service. Good management will ensure that all patrons get efficient service every time they are in the restaurant. It also helps to ensure that everything about the business, from staffing, to menu selection and marketing, is running efficiently to ensure profitability.

Reasonable Prices

The success of a restaurant will also be determined by the price of the food. People expect to get what they are paying for. If the prices are high, the patrons will expect great service and exquisite food to match the cost. If the prices are too high, it can discourage returning customers because there is a limit to how much people will spend on food. On the other hand, considerably low prices will give the impression of low quality and it makes many patrons suspicious. Good restaurants have learnt the art of setting a balance between the service they provide and what they charge for it.

Also, another feature of great exotic restaurants is the ability to provide something different, people are constantly on the lookout for different experiences and restaurants that stand out from the rest tend to be quite popular. A good restaurant will adhere to all legal requirements including health and tax regulations too. Have you found your favorite restaurant yet?

5 Fun Craft Activities To Do With Your Kids This Christmas

by Trish

Christmas is really a special time, especially for many children. They are always in awe of the magic of Christmas, with the sparkly tinsel decorations, the brightly decorated shops at Christmas time and all the celebrations that are part of the Christmas festivities. Involving your children in Christmas craft activities will bring them absolute delight, especially when they see their handmade decorations hung on the Christmas tree or see someone special unwrapping a gift that they have made.

Beaded Ornaments

All you will need is craft wire and beads. Bend the wire into a simple shape like a circle or heart and thread beads onto the shape. Twist the ends together and then form a loop at the top so the ornament can be hung on the Christmas tree. This lovely ornament will last for years and will be a special keepsake. You can even attach a small tag with the year it was made and the name of the child. Make several and they can be kept and given away as well.

Candle Holders

Recycle glass jars of all sizes. Wrap craft wire several times around the neck of the jar and then make a loop over the top for a handle. A small jar can be decorated with glass paint. Choose a colour theme or stick to a Christmas theme of silver, red and green and decorate with small dots. Place a tea light candle in the base. For the next jar, thread beads randomly onto craft wire and wrap around the body of the jar, finishing by winding the wire several times around the neck of the jar and then looping a handle. Another idea is to attach tracing paper to a larger jar with double sided tape. Use metallic pens to draw designs on the paper. When a candle is lit inside the jar, it will glow through the tracing paper.

Christmas Crackers

Fill a small cardboard tube with a sweet wrapped treat and a novelty. You could also print out some jokes from the internet to make it more authentic. If preferred, a cracker snap can be purchased from craft stores and added. Use double sided tape to stick a large piece of plain coloured tissue or wrapping paper around the tube. Twist the ends of the paper and tie in place. Decorate the paper with Christmas stickers and you have a traditional Christmas cracker. Make sure you have enough for everyone!

Christmas Baking

Children will be delighted to see their baking efforts served up. Use a basic cookie dough mixture and cut out traditional shapes like Christmas trees or stars. Decorate with icing or cachous. You can buy fruit cake mixture ready to bake. Combine ingredients according to directions and bake in baking paper lined small terracotta pots. When cool, adorn with a small Christmas decoration, wrap in clear cellophane with a twist of tinsel, and you have a lovely gift.

Photo Christmas Gifts

Children love having their photo taken, so take some snaps of your child or let them take the photos! They can then add their photo to a Christmas card that they make or a calendar can be printed using several shots. Make sure to use the photo of them with Santa!

Christmas is a joyous time and the excitement of a child is what Christmas is all about. These crafts will encourage them to develop skills and keep them actively involved in the holiday season.

Burnt out – I need a vacation!

by The Shopping Maniac

All I’ve been doing since the beginning of September is studying studying studying. Well that and renovating my house and keeping up with all my websites etc .. I basically don’t sleep. Really – I think I get about 5 hours a night and that’s it. It’s not enough.

Anyway, once I’m done with my two college courses in December and well I suppose maybe I’ll wait until after Christmas is over .. I think I might treat myself to a vacation. It will be well deserved. I’ve been working very hard these last few months and by the time I’m done my courses and hopefully about to start my job again I’ll need a holiday. Of course if I’m about to go back to work I probably won’t be able to go, but maybe since I’ll be working shift work with up to five days off at a time I might be able to take a winter vacation. Perhaps one of those south padre island beach house rentals. I could do something like that as a five day vacation and be back to work all relaxed … yeah … that sounds good doesn’t it?

Do you ever feel like you just need to get away for a vacation? Even a short one, a weekend a long weekend?

Football at the local high school

by The Shopping Maniac

I was walking by our local high school the other day and it looks like football season is in full gear. They just had their annual game day a week ago when all the kids from nearby schools attend a game at local school. It was the school closest to our house this year so a week ago Friday we had TONS of teenagers walking the streets on a Friday night looking for fun before and after their game.

At least it wasn’t as bad this year as it was a few years ago when our local school was chosen for game day .. the kids were really rowdy that time and did lots of damage. I had broken plants in my front garden and lots of neighbors had broken bottles in their yards and some cars were damaged too.

Anyway as I was saying it looks like Football season is here. I was watching the team practice and the band came out to do their practice on the field too. My husband was with me and he started talking to the music teacher about the band. I’m not sure of everything they were talking about because I’m not the musician – he is .. but I guess the teacher was happy because the school was getting some new marching band equipment at wwbw. Apparently it was much needed. I think someone was helping with a donation or something.

Maybe we’ll stop by this coming weekend and watch a game. The season will end soon with our weather!

What are your hobbies?

by The Shopping Maniac

I was in my basement the other day and I came across an old spoon rack that my parents gave me many many years ago. I’m not really sure where all of the spoon are that used to be in the spoon rack went, but they are still somewhere around. I know they are. My parents bought me that spoon rack because somehow, when I was quite young I got started on a spoon collection.

It wasn’t me that started it. I didn’t know anything about spoon collecting when I was a little kid. However, relatives that travelled would be nice and they’d bring me back spoons from Africa, Germany, Spain, England and so on and before I knew it I had quite a few spoons. My parents and I would also go on road trip vacations and we’d drive across parts of Canada and the US so of course I have spoons from all of the Provinces in Canada and most of the States in the US.

Anyway .. I know people have all kinds of hobbies. Some people start on their own and others get started with a little help from other people. My nieces husband is in the Military and just recently she took an interest in our families military history. She requested pictures or copies of my fathers and other relatives Air Force challenge coins or any other items we could come across. I don’t have any of that stuff but I know where she can get more information on my fathers and other relatives service records so I sent her that information. So that’s her hobby now .. collecting our families and her husbands service histories.

Of course I have other hobbies .. spoon collecting isn’t really one of my hobbies anymore, although if I started travelling again or went somewhere where I didn’t think I had a spoon from I might get a spoon and maybe my hobby would start again. What kind of hobbies do you have?
