Time for a real vacation

by The Shopping Maniac

My husband and I haven’t been on a true vacation in years. It always seems that whenever we get a chance to go away we end up going someplace where we have relatives and end up staying in there home.

Don’t get me wrong. I don’t mind visiting with relatives – especially ones I don’t see often and staying in their home certainly cuts down on expenses … but I’m starting to long for a real vacation. Maybe in the spring we’ll try out one of those Outer Banks vacation rentals or even just go away to Niagara falls for a long weekend.

Do you take regular vacations? If you do – are they always to someplace where you stay in a hotel or are you like us and you end up staying with relatives or friends while on holiday?

Time to start planning for a vacation

by The Shopping Maniac

Winter, blah! I think it’s time to start planning a vacation.

My husband and I haven’t been on a real vacation in ages. We always had an excuse for not taking a vacation – we were both working shift work and our schedules didn’t correspond for even a weekend get away, we didn’t have the money for a holiday or who will take care of our pets?

Enough excuses! I need holiday! Even if it’s only a few days away from home.

We live in Toronto so it’s easy enough to go just about anywhere we want. I’d been thinking of taking up one of those hotel deals in Niagara Falls for a weekend. Some of the hotels there are pet friendly so we could even bring our dog! Or maybe look into booking a new york cheap hotel for a weekend, well, if we could get a cheap flight to New York I mean.

I’d love to go away to the Caribbean or Mexico for a week or two, but I don’t think we can swing that right now … so maybe one or two short trips away will have to do. I’m sure it will help!

Do you go on holiday during the winter or in early spring? Doesn’t it help break up those winter blahs?

How to Save When Visiting Disney World

by The Shopping Maniac

Saving money when visiting to Walt Disney World might seem to be a contradiction, but with some planning and preparation, you can have an enjoyable trip to Florida without running up a huge bill.

The Walt Disney World Resort is absolutely huge, with an area of almost 50 square miles near Orlando, Florida. There are four gigantic theme areas, Epcot, MGM Studios, the Animal Kingdom, and the Magic Kingdom. With so many things to see, visitors almost always spend at least a week just to take it all in. Disney World has built more than 14 hotels just to take care of everyone visiting the parks.

Fortunately, Disney recognizes that folks are searching for different options when visiting the area. For this reason, they have hotels that fit every budget. Hotels are separated into Value, Moderate, and Deluxe levels. Value is sort of the Walt Disney way of saying inexpensive, but visitors won’t be let down, as the Disney Value hotels are clean and comfortable. Moderate hotels are definitely nicer, promising bigger living areas and sit down dining on the property.

Deluxe resorts at Disney World are top-of-the-line accommodations built to satisfy and pamper any tourist. Many of the resorts such as the Contemporary Resort and Polynesian are along the monorail, so you can simply travel to Epcot without having a car or riding a bus. Rooms are much bigger, and the Disney World environment is of course magical.

So how do you decide which resort to stay at? Well would you rather spend your hard earned cash on gifts or pamper your family with the best, after all you are on holiday? Value options like the Disney Pop Century Hotel can cost somewhere from $80 to $120 a night, while top end Resorts start from $200 and go higher from there. As you can tell, if you multiply that by 5 to 9 nights, you could end up spending hundreds more just for a nicer place.

The choice is yours, but whatever you pick, tourists can be sure Disney World employees will work hard to make sure you and your family have a good visit on your trip away from home.

Aberdeen: The Silver City And Places To Visit

by The Shopping Maniac

Aberdeen is the third largest city in Scotland, in relation to the size of the city’s population. Aberdeen’s buildings, since the mid 18th century, have been made using local grey granite and the city is well known for its sandy coastline. This has led to the city being nicknamed the Silver City with the Golden Sands and also the Granite City. However in recent years the city has added the nicknames of the Oil Capital of Europe or the Energy Capital of Europe due to the discovery of oil in the North Sea. The city of Aberdeen has benefitted greatly from the oil industry and the support industries. Today Aberdeen is thoroughly modern and immensely vibrant with a lively nighlife.

Aberdeen hotels are often booked by business visitors but also by many other types of people eager to take advantage of the many tourist attractions Aberdeen has to offer. Below you will find details of three; Satrosphere Science Centre, Duthie Park Winter Gardens and Aberdeen Maritime Museum:

Aberdeen Maritime Museum

The Maritime Museum in Aberdeen is found close to the harbor, at the legendary Shiprow. There are astounding views of the harbour from the museum. The Maritime Museum resides in quite a few buildings, including a former church and one of the oldest residences in Aberdeen. The museum has exhibits that cover everything relating to the seagoing environment, from fishing boats to the oil industry. Basically, the museum conveys the  story of the city’s long relationship with the sea. Some of the collections contain ship plans, photographs, models and paintings from the most major of Aberdeen’s shipbuilders.

Duthie Park Winter Gardens

Lady Elizabeth Duthie of Ruthrieston,in 1881, gifted 44 acres of land, to the council. The land for the park was purchased, as a lasting memorial to her brother and uncle. In 1899, the gardens were ready, and were opened to the public. However, in 1969 disaster struck and the greenhouses had to be knocked down and rebuilt. This was due to horrendous storm damgage. Today, one of Scotland’s favourite garden attractions are the David Welch Winter Gardens at Duthie Park, and also the largest indoor gardens in the whole of Europe. Each greenhouse has an important collection such as, the Temperate House, Japanese Garden, Fern House, Victorian House, Tropical House and Corridor of Perfumes.

Satrosphere Science Centre

In Aberdeen, the Satrosphere Science Center was one of the first science and discovery centers in Scotland. This hands-on, interactive science center, has over fifty exhibits and live science demonstrations, and opened to the public in 1988. Even though the center is aimed at primary age children, the appeal of the exhibits is universal. The center is located in the old tram sheds, near to the beach, on Constitution Street. The aim is to inspire teenagers to become scientist’s, as interest in science courses in universities, is in decline. One of the favorite exhibits at the center is the famous giant soap bubble, where each child can be encircled in a magic bubble.

There are many other visitor attractions in and about Aberdeen which are well worth visiting and the 3 above were chosen randomly. If you are planning to visit Aberdeen, Scotland then you will find numerous quality hotels in Aberdeen, or various other types of accommodation, available to book online.
