A quick shopping trip

by The Shopping Maniac

When my husband got home from work tonight we hopped in the car and drove off to the closed Costco. We had to get there before the store closed at 8:30 pm and my husband hadn’t returned home from work until about 7:45 pm!

Needless to say once we got to the store our shopping trip was rushed. I only had to pick up one thing, but well, you know how shopping trips go – I think we ended up buying about 5 items! The most expensive thing was a therapy light that I need to use for Seasonal Affective Disorder .. my doctor seems to think I might be suffering from S.A.D. . I don’t think so but it’s worth trying for a couple of weeks – I did make sure that I could return the light!

While we were in line to pay for our items my husband noticed that the man in front of us was wearing radii shoes. Now he wants a pair. I have to admit that they’re kind of cool looking sneakers. Hmmm … maybe for Christmas.

Oh .. once we got home it started snowing heavily so we just made it home in time! I’m glad we didn’t have to drive in that storm!

Shopping all afternoon

by The Shopping Maniac

My husband and I were out shopping this afternoon and the shopping trip that I thought would only take about two hours ended up taking almost five hours! Time sure flies when when you’re shopping in crowded stores at this time of year doesn’t it?

We went to Costco first as my husband had to get a prescription filled, and then I wanted to see how many of the items from my baking list I could get at Costco. Yes, I knew I’d come away with large packages, but I plan on doing a lot of cooking. I ended up getting Vanilla, flour, sugar, two big bags of semi sweet chocolate chips, sweetened condensed milk and a few other things.

We ended our shopping trip at Walmart. I got the rest of my baking supplies there and I found a new cookie sheet. It’s one of those air insulated baking sheets. I bought it so I could give it a try. I think we got everything we needed, so tomorrow I’ll get started baking three different types of cookies, a pumpkin cheesecake and maybe some homemade bread. The only thing I didn’t do today was get around to looking at a Wholesale Insurance website that my friend wants me to check out for her. I’ll do that later.

While we were shopping at Walmart we happened to see my husbands old boss. He’s not someone that either of us liked. He’s a really bad guy … like the kind of boss that does everything he can to not pay his employees? So we tried to avoid this guy while we were in the store and of course whenever you’re trying to avoid someone you keep running into them. I think we ran into him about five times – in fact, Chris’ old boss even came up to my husband while he was in line waiting to pay for our things to ask him a question. Luckily he didn’t seem to recognize him.

Ok … I’d better go and prepare the kitchen for tomorrows bake off.

Back to normal after the holiday?

by The Shopping Maniac

It seems that everything is back to normal again after Thanks Giving, Black Friday and Cyber Monday.

I’m in Canada and our Thanks giving is in October. We had some sales here, but nothing like in the US. I’ll bet that some people took out payday loans to cover all their extra shopping expenses!

I really noticed the difference in traffic on my websites and in the amount of email I was getting over the weekend. Things seem to be back to normal now though. Did you notice a difference on your websites too?

Found a great Vitamin and Bulk food store

by The Shopping Maniac

My husband and I were shopping on the weekend and we happened to visit a very interesting store while we were in a shopping mall.

The store was called Healthy Planet. It’s mainly a vitamin store, but it also sells health foods, organics and some bulk items.

We were amazed by how large their selection was, and their prices were great as well. Vitamins that we normally buy in other stores were about two or three dollars cheaper per bottle at Healthy Planet.

My husband, who’s hair is getting a little thin at the top, even found some information about a website called www.stressandhairloss.net. He plans to visit the site this weekend to get some information. Who knows, maybe he can stop or slow his hair loss.

We didn’t have a lot of time to look around the store, but I’d like to go back soon and take a better look at their bulk foods. I don’t know why, but I love buying bulk foods. LOL

Have you noticed product sizes are smaller yet the price is still the same?

by The Shopping Maniac

I was just watching a story on the news about how manufacturers are “shrinking products but not the price”. By this I mean, maybe you used to buy your favorite yogurt in a large size container – perhaps a 750 ml container. Now you’ve just noticed that while the packaging looks the same the container only holds 600 ml and the price is still the same or perhaps even higher.

All kinds of manufacturers are doing this. Watch carefully. Everything from the weight of loaves of bread changing to the amount of product in a package lessening. Oh and watch out when manufactures announce a “new look” or new packaging – I’ll bet you’ll notice that the weight of the product is less or that if it had 12 items in it before now it has 10.

A friend of mine recently noticed something like that with her weight loss supplements the packaging had changed and there were fewer pills.

Consumers being interviewed in the news clip also noticed that ingredients in some of the food products that had decreased in size had changed as well. They had more or cheaper fillers in them so consumers are being cheated twice on those products by paying the same price for less product with inferior ingredients.

What products do you buy regularly that you’ve noticed have been downsized recently? Do you feel ripped off by the manufacturers?
