Brighten Up Your Home With a Tiffany Lamp

by The Shopping Maniac

Tiffany lamps rank high on the list of artistic and attractive lighting options. However, they are also among the most costly; you’ll have to pay anywhere between 100 dollars to 5000 dollars. Most people find that these lamps serve a dual purpose of providing illumination as well as serving as a decorative piece in the room. The Quoizel lamp is similar in design to Tiffany lamps. These lamps can also be found in a variety of beautiful patterns and colors. They are a stylish source of light as well as an attractive work of art.

Tiffany lamps were first created by Louis Comfort Tiffany, a well-known American artist. His designs featured decorative stained glass in signature patterns. He wanted to make sure that the details and colors were maintained throughout the production process, so he utilized the copper foil technique, which resulted in distinctive and attractive lamp shades with elaborate bases of bronze. Some of the popular designs available include the wisteria and dragonfly mosaics.

In the past, Tiffany glass lamps were made solely by hand, but modern times have developed faster ways to produce them. There are hundreds of designs available coming in a variety of patterns, sizes and price tags. You may initially want to buy your Tiffany lamps based on affordability, but also consider the styles since it can make or break the essence and atmosphere of your room.

The lamp shade is probably the most distinctive feature of Mr. Tiffany’s designs. Geometric glass shades are comprised of a variety of basic shapes made from poured glass and formed into a pattern. Next they are cut in sections, and copper foil is attached to the edges before they are fastened together. Floral design shades feature both geometric and floral patterns and usually come in two types, namely leaf or scattered floral.

Some Tiffany lamps also feature a cone shaped shade with a circular rim and straight sides, with a detailed floral pattern. Dragonfly shades fall into this category; they are generally quite costly.

Tiffany lamps may also have globe-shaped shades that are quite hard to make but are more detailed than cone-shaped models. The lamp shade has a dome figure allowing more intricate designs of flowers and insects. The shades range in size from 12 to 28 inches.

Yet another Tiffany lamp style has an irregular lower border with more natural form and flowing rims. These shades are usually globe-shaped with the lower border having an irregular form. One of the most sophisticated of Tiffany shade designs is the irregular upper or lower style that features an openwork crown resembling the branches of a tree. The wisteria is made in this manner, portraying expertly cut glass with a stunning assortment of colors.
